U21 FINAL ON SUNDAY

LEICESTER have extensive interest in Sunday’s British Under-21 Final at Glasgow (2pm).

The club are represented by four of their current riders, with a number of others who have strong connections also racing at Ashfield.

Recent Watling JCB Lions signing Sam Hagon impressively won the qualifier at Plymouth, whilst Lion Cubs youngster Vinnie Foord also booked his place with a superb second position at the Coliseum.

Lion Cubs skipper Joe Thompson was already guaranteed a spot at Glasgow as one of the seeded riders, and they are joined by Max James who also came through at Plymouth.

The line-up also includes Dan Thompson who will start as one of the favourites, along with former Lion Cubs riders Ashton Boughen, Ben Trigger and Mickie Simpson.

2022 champion Leon Flint will be another fancied competitor on his home Championship track, with Dan Thompson looking to add the Under-21 title to the Under-19 victory he enjoyed last year.

*LEICESTER captain Max Fricke has been handed a route back into the Grand Prix series due to the injury suffered by fellow countryman Jason Doyle.

Fricke was surprisingly overlooked for a place in the World Championship this year but was instead named as first reserve.

He was already set to make his first appearance of the season in Round 4 in Prague this weekend, after Doyle suffered a crash at King’s Lynn recently and was ruled out of the Czech GP.

However, Doyle has now confirmed his shoulder injury requires surgery which will put him out for the remainder of the 2024 campaign, meaning Fricke will rejoin the series on a full-time basis from this point.
